Carolina Shout
An homage to the 1920's style of jazz piano playing (Fats Waller, et al), the blues lyric form, and a shout to my home state.
Words and Music by Evan Hause
Well, my Pa's from Carolina and my Ma she's from Illinois
I got a little Yankee but I'm really just a Southern boy
My granny's from the city and my nanny come from shanty
town
Sometimes I like to rock it other times I like to break it down
My brother moved to Philly and my sister went to Tennessee
Any old place I eat my turkey's got a freedom-lovin' guarantee
I got a hot mama in New Orleans, in 'Frisco a kissin' friend
But a girl in Carolina's bound to bring my boppin' to an end
I'll spend my Spring among the dogwoods and my Summer sniffin'
ocean breeze
I'll take my Autumn in the Smokies and Winter in Los Angeleez
I eat some steak in Kansas City but I won't have no barbecue
For that you'll have to meet me way down in Pitt County with the corn sticks
and Brunswick stew
I got the world in my heart but I'm a Tarheel through and
through
You can visit if you like otherwise I'll bring it right out to you
