The Mechanical River (1990)

For Percussion and Bassoon. Commissioned and premiered by Chris Wabich, March 1, 1990 at Appalachian State University.

Program notes:

The Mechanical River uses overlaid repetitive patterns, a variety of different levels of control/freedom (improvised/non-improvised), and a few tunes as its primary material. The percussion set-up originally called for a Mallet Kat, but it may be performed with traditional percussion; particularly tom-toms or boobams.

Duration: ca. 7:00
